UMR Virologie : Launching of the French-German ANR project “PREPMEDVET”

On January 26th, Souheyla Benfrid, Emmanuel Bréard, Labib Bakkali Kassimi, Stéphan Zientara, from the UMR Virologie unit along with Yannick Blanchard and Fabrice Touzain (Anses Ploufragan) participated in the official launching of the PREPMedVet project (coordinated by Anne Pohlmann from the FLI for Germany and Stéphan Zientara for France).

This project was part of the 6th Forum for French-German Cooperation in research, through which the National Research Agency (ANR) and the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research launched in une 2019 a call for projects centered on biological threats. After an evaluation process, four projects implicating French partners were selected in 2020 by the ANR with an overall budget of 3 million euros for a length of 36 months.

For France, the joint research unit on Virology in Animal Health associated with the GVB at Ploufragan and the University Aix-Marseille were selected in this PREPMedVet project with the goal of developing sequencing core facilities for portable sequencing and diagnostics, able to deliver in a clinically relevant context critical information in the early stages of an epidemic situation, to understand the modes of transmission of infectious agents, the genomics of pathogens, and the evolution and possible origin of these infectious agents.
